Released the last monarch butterfly today. Monarc Released the last monarch butterfly today. Monarch season has come to an end here. We did not see a great abundance of monarchs this year, but we did what we could to help them survive. We released about 20 monarch butterflies in 2021, but just as many succumbed to predators. Maybe if we all do a little, we can help the monarch butterfly survive. Plant milkweed….. plant nectar plants that bloom during the fall migration….. and don’t use pesticides.

Last week I found a mystery butterfly chrysalis on Last week I found a mystery butterfly chrysalis on the aronia berries, so I put it into the monarch enclosure to see what would emerge. Today a beautiful little buckeye butterfly emerged from the chrysalis and I released it into the wild.

They will most likely form their chrysalis in the garden, overwinter and then emerge in the spring as a beautiful black swallowtail butterfly. Want to attract them to your garden?
